The Community Support Worker program at CIT prepares graduates with generalist skills to work in a variety of frontline human support settings. A Community Support Worker provides support and assistance to clients in our community, with emphasis on fulfilling the emotional, social and recreational needs of that person. Community Support Workers train to work in areas such as day programs, community outreach, home support, community residences, mental health and addictions and employment programs. Current training courses are selected to complement agency standards for quality service and professionalism.

 

 

Program Durations

30 weeks. Full-time.

Practicum

This program includes four weeks of practicum. Student will gain comprehensive practical experience as you apply previously learned theory and practice in working with individuals, families, communities, and organizations.

Before you start your practicum, you are required to provide the following documentation to CIT: a Criminal Records Check, a Child Abuse Registry Check, a Vulnerable Sector Search and CPR Level C with AED training.  Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training is recommended but not required. The processing times for these documentations may take up to 12 weeks, you are advised to start ahead of time.
